3 Things to do in Aberfeldy, Scotland | Travel
We stayed in a lovely holiday cottage just outside of the main village of Aberfeldy in a place called Keltneyburn. The house was big enough for 8 and boasted a wicked hot tub. Perfect post-adventuring recovery. I love holidays like this, I’ve written about my previous trips to Scotland before. Yes we are keen mountaineers, but you don’t always have to go up a mountain. Although number 1 on my 3 things to do in Aberfeldy is…
#1 – Go hiking in the mountains
Honestly, the number one reason for a trip to the highlands right? In Aberfeldy you’re close to Schiehallion and Ben Lawers, famous munros for those munro baggers amongst us. But there are also corbets, these aren’t as tall as the munros and are just as fun for hiking. Whilst we were away we managed a full on winter conditions hike (only do if you know what you’re doing – we needed axes and crampons) on the wonderful Ben a’Chulliach. This blog post pretty much sums up our route on the day.
#2 – Go on adventures in Griffin Forest
Ok, so maybe mountains and hills aren’t your thing. Not to worry, Scotland has some epic forests for you to play in as well. We headed to Griffin Forest for a 6 mile stroll. There’s ample parking and some marked walking routes for you as well. The Tay Side Forest Park is quite extensive, with many bits of forests throughout the area. Definitely worth exploring in my opinion.
#3 – Go clay pigeon shooting at The Claygame Co
Last but not least was a fun activity Dr W organised for all of us whilst we were away. The Claygame Co are based on a large estate near Aberfeldy and offer everything from tuition to driven game shoots. Now, I understand shooting is not for everyone. But fr a few of us we took the opportunity to get some tuition and enjoy shooting on an incredible estate. I’ve shot before, but not somewhere as stupendous as this. We are already planning on returning. If you’re interested drop Ian and the guys a message and they can work things out to suit your needs. We had 6 stands, some tuition and some lovely snacks too. It made for a super fun morning!
