Spooky Spider Cookies with Skippy Peanut Butter | Recipe
There’s quite a few variations of this recipe online. You can use pretzels for the legs instead of piping chocolate. Use peanut butter cups instead of chocolate buttons for the body of the spider. But one thing remains the same in all Spooky Spider Cookies, they use peanut butter in the mixture. For mine I used the wonderfully smooth Skippy Peanut Butter*. I find that crunchy peanut butter doesn’t work as well for this recipe, the cookies don’t turn out as soft. Scroll down for the instructions.

Ingredients
- 150g Caster sugar
- 70g Unsalted butter (softened)
- 100 g Peanut butter (smooth)
- 1 tbsp Light brown sugar (or honey)
- 1 tsp Baking powder
- 180 g Plain flour (sieved)
- 18 Chocolate buttons
- 100 g Milk chocolate (chopped)
Instructions
- Heat oven to 180°C/160°C Fan. In small bowl, combine flour, baking powder; mix well.
- In large bowl, beat together peanut butter and margarine with electric mixer until smooth (Or use your stand mixer for this step like me!) Beat in caster and brown sugars, then eggs and vanilla until blended. Fold in flour mixture just until blended. Work it into a more dough like consistency with your hands (it will be sticky).
- Shape dough into 1-inch balls. On baking sheets, arrange balls 2 inches apart. Bake 12 minutes or until lightly golden. (I baked 6 at a time and put my mixture in the fridge between bakes).
- If decorating like spiders, gently press chocolate button into top of each cookie while still warm and soft. Cool completely then melt the chopped chocolate, get into a thin consistency and transfer to piping bag. Use a thin nozzle and pipe the chocolate to make the spiders legs on the cookies.
If you don’t fancy peanut butter cookies, you could add some extra butter and flour instead. If you wanted as well, you could use some candy eyes or even ice some eyes on your little spiders. I decided to keep my attempt super simple so it would be easily repeatable as a last minute Halloween bake. Also, if you’re not up for Halloween, you don’t have to turn the biscuits into spiders!
