Winter can be a tough time; there’s lots of illnesses making the rounds, it’s cold and dark, and the bitter winds are terrible for your skin. Get Lots of Sleep

Sleep is a powerful thing. It helps your body rest and recuperate, keeping you fit and healthy. Enough sleep helps your mind stay focused and sharp. It’s also great for your skin as it gives it a chance to rest, and revitalize itself. Don’t get enough, and there’ll be black lines under your eyes, your skin will be pale and dull, and you’ll feel awful. Those who spend a lot of time on the computer, like those studying for a health communication degree from Boston University, to use the same example, often find it hard to sleep. The best things to do are work in a room that’s not your bedroom, and make sure you switch off for an hour before bed.

Drink Enough Water

The recommended amount to drink is 8 glasses a day. Our bodies, skin included, are made up of large amounts of water, so it’s hugely important to keep hydrated, especially when we’re busy, or trying to keep warm. Try to carry a bottle of water around with you to sip all day, and drink a full glass with meals.

Take Your Make-up Off

I’m sure we are all guilty of sleeping in our make-up occasionally, but it’s best not to. Make removing it a part of your evening routine. Sleeping in make-up blocks up your pores, and doesn’t give your skin its chance to get that all important rest. It also ruins your pillowcases. Use a cleanser that’s suitable for your skin type, and follow with a facial moisturizer.

Wash Your Brushes

Do you wash your brushes as often as you should? We apply our make-up in the morning, and touch up through the day, all with the same brush. While your face might be clean and fresh in the morning, it isn’t after all those touch ups. Using dirty brushes spreads bacteria, making you much more likely to get pimples or even infections.

Once a week, use a face mask. You can quite easily make one up from ingredients you already have if you don’t want to buy one. A face mask can help remove any deep impurities and blackheads, while restoring moisture to dry, tired skin. However, using them too often can strip your skin of its natural oils, leaving it drier than ever.

Try to keep up a regular skincare routine. You don’t necessarily need expensive products, just some that suit your skin type. A few small changes to your daily routine will really help keep your skin radiant instead of dry and dull.
